I have big plans. Plans that involve ticking off boxes on many lists. Plans that involve reaching milestones for games played and multiple plays. Plans that involve emptying that shelf of shame. But sometimes our plans for gaming challenges are thwarted by real life challenges. The latter are significantly less fun.
In this house, we deal with OCD. Not the humorous fun kind that you see on TV, not something that you wish for so that you could be more organized or keep your pencils straight, but the kind that makes it impossible to eat or drink without help, the kind that can keep you housebound for months at a time. I don’t say this to garner any kind of sympathy – there’s no need for that. I say this because we are trying to find a way to have gaming challenges help our other bigger challenges.
So we make plans and we watch videos and we try to get inspired to get things back on the table. I am thrilled by the new wave of Roll and Write games that mean that there’s less handling of pieces necessary. (I can roll for others if needed) I am hopeful that new RPGs will bring out the storyteller that’s been confined to his computer. And I am encouraged that we were able to have friends over to game even if not all of us could participate. Strangers in the house is a huge step. Maybe gaming can help us.
So I am setting more challenges and hoping to overcome old ones.
