“Do you want to play a game?” This is the question I find myself asking most nights. Unfortunately, wanting to play a game and having the time, players and focus are not all the same thing. How often do you bring games to the table?

This is the current shelf of games in rotation. This doesn’t count the cabinets beneath, the boxes of micro/filler games, the Carcassonne and Settlers collections, the Munchkin boxes or dice and RPG games. You get the idea. At any given time there are stacks of games enticing us to play. And what’s more? We are always on the lookout for the best, newest, most fun game or most exciting Kickstarter. And why? Because they all look fun. Because we know that under the right circumstances there will be laughing and battling, gorgeous games and Meeples!
But realistically, given the amount of games we have and the amount of time we devote to investigating new games, how often do we get to play each of these? How often do you have the time but not the right number of players? Or it’s just too late at night to start an involved game? Do our filler games get more table time? Is is because of convenience of our love of a compact, well designed game? Possible both.
Like any other collection, it needs to be culled at times. Which games are making the cut?
For us, they have to score really well on the 2nd STAR scale. But even the games we love don’t always get enough play time. The real world rears its ugly head. If you were to look at Instagram or other pages you’d think everyone was playing non-stop. I know we wish we were playing more often. So given the amount of money, love and time we put into our collections, how many games a week are we actually playing?
Leave a comment and let us know how many games get to the table a week? Are they larger games? Micro/filler games?
